Depending on how you figure it, a round trip between Sam Houston State University and The Woodlands can cost from about $12 (if you’re buying gas only for an extremely fuel-efficient vehicle) to more than $50, based on the state’s reimbursement rate for private vehicles.
Or you can ride the new Sam SHuttle for $8, beginning Aug. 18. The one-way fare will be $4.
Sam Houston State University and Brazos Transit District have announced a partnership for a Monday through Friday shuttle that will make the trip in about an hour, with three stops in between the campus and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion parking lot.
The stops will be in Conroe at the Outlets of Conroe Parking Lot, 1111 League Line Road (and I-45), with another stop being at the University Center main entrance lot for Lone Star College on Highway 242 at West College Park Drive. The third location will be at the Portofino Shopping Center on I-45.
The shuttles will each have a seating capacity of 57 and will make on-campus stops at the Bowers Stadium west parking lot and the Johnson Coliseum flagpole area across from the Health & Kinesiology Center.
While its primary users are expected to be Sam Houston State University students, staff and faculty, the shuttle is public transportation and available to anyone.
Tickets will be available in the Office of Enrollment Management, located in Smith-Kirkley Room 144, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Health & Kinesiology Recreation Center counter from 4 – 8 p.m., and in the university’s Cashier’s Office in the Estill Building from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets will be available on August 15th at these locations.
Heather Crowson, vice president for enrollment management, and Richard Eglsaer, associate provost/vice president for academic affairs, handled the planning and negotiations for the new shuttle. They tout the service as a way to save money and gas, while having time to read, study, plan your day, or just relax during the trip.

"I don't want to give up the book because it is an art."
