"The measure of a Life is its Service."
The department of theatre and dance will look at love and the law during three plays beginning Friday (Aug. 1) in the University Theatre Center’s Showcase Theatre.
Each of the Summer Repertory Company’s productions of “The Swan,” “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot” and “Regrets Only” will be presented at 8 p.m.
Elizabeth Egloff’s “The Swan” tells the story of a three-time divorcée who finds love in an unusual mate.
Much to the chagrin of her current lover, a milkman named Kevin, Dora and the swan that comes crashing into her window one day develop a relationship that surpasses the one that he and Dora have.
A contemporary retelling of the myth “Leda and the Swan,” the play features cast members Daniel Nepveux as the Swan, Amanda Gutierrez as Dora and Jared Cummings as the milkman.
Presented Friday and Saturday (Aug. 1-2), “The Swan” is directed by senior musical theatre major Holly Johnson, and the stage manager is sophomore theatre major Da’Rel Johnson.
In “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot,” performed Aug. 3-4, the Bible’s most notorious sinner faces trial in “Hope,” a small place in Purgatory where “litigation determines the fates of its inhabitants.”
The cast includes Ashtyn Sonner, Zach Lewis, Michael Keeny, Angela Bell, Katie Stefaniak, Daniel Nepveux, Jordan Smith, Brook Riley, Jack Ivy, Da’Rel Johnson, Patrick Massey, Jeremy Brown, Schandria Reece, Sam Weeks, Jared Cummings and Addison Roush.
“The Last Days of Judas Iscariot” is directed by senior musical theatre major Robbie Bardwell, and the stage manager is junior theatre major Veronica La Comb.
“Regrets Only,” Aug. 5-6, tells the story of a wealthy, liberal Upper East Side family that gets involved with the United States president’s call for a gay marriage ban amendment.
Spencer McCullough is getting married and expects to have the most extravagant, perfect wedding her family can provide, but in the midst of the celebration planning, her father, Jack, receives a presidential call asking him to help craft a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage.
With Spencer, a budding attorney, as his clerk, Jack finds that the new task tests his relationship with family friend Hank Hadley, a successful fashion designer, whose longtime partner recently died.
The dark comedy is a marriage of character and caricature, about friendship, love and the importance of doing right.
“Regrets Only” features Sam Weeks as Jack McCullough, Meagan De La Rosa as Spencer McCullough, Ashtyn Sonner as Tibby McCullough, Mark Ivy as Hank Hadley, Jordan O’Hara Smith as Myra Kesselman and Angela Bell as Marietta Claypoole.
Tickets for all summer repertory performances are $5 for general admission and can be purchased at the door the evening of the show.
Because all shows contain adult language and content, children under the age of three will not be admitted.

"I don't want to give up the book because it is an art."
