The SHSU Department of Theatre and Dance will present the 2009-2010 Fantasy Masquerade Scholarship Gala on Friday, Sept. 11 in the University Theatre Center.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. and will include a live and silent auction and cabaret along with performances by theatre, dance and musical theatre majors in “The Fantasy Follies.” Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available throughout the evening.

The annual gala provides scholarships for theatre, dance and musical theatre students.

"The department’s recognition at the state, regional and national levels attest to the high quality of students in our programs," said Kandice Harris, theatre manager.

"Scholarships attract superior students and allow them to excel," she said. "This year our goal is to reach $40,000, which will enable the department to award 40 one thousand-dollar scholarships to these majors."

The live auction items include a wine tasting for 20, one week in a condominium anywhere in the world and designer jewelry. The silent auction items include designer sunglasses and production photos, among other items.

"We also are promoting mask sponsors," Harris said. Mask sponsorship is $100 and the patron/business will be recognized at the Gala listing in all theatre and dance programs, as well as receive a special V.I.P. mask at the door.

Parking is available behind the Newton Gresham Library. A golf cart service will be provided for patrons. Those who have special needs should contact Harris at 936.294.3968.

Tickets are $50 for theatre patrons and $30 for parents of SHSU Department of Theatre and Dance students. The tax deductible donation for a patron ticket is $40 and for parent’s tickets is $20. "After Five" attire or costumes is encouraged but not required. Masks will be provided at the door.
