The College Bowl-style matches, which are open to the public, will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on the third floor of the Lowman Student Center. Each match involves two schools and lasts about 25 minutes.
Approximately 30 SHSU faculty and a similar number of students volunteer their time to serve as question readers, judges, timekeepers, greeters, etc., said Dr. Frank Fair, contest coordinator.
This is the fifth regional academic challenge contest sponsored by SHSU and the SHSU Honors Program. Winners advance to the Texas Academic Challenge State Championship which will be held at SHSU next April 12 and 13.

The week begins with a Horn Choir Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Recital Hall. The Jazz Ensemble Concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Killinger Auditorium in the Beto Criminal Justice Center. A clarinet studio recital is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Recital Hall.
The symphony concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday in Killinger Auditorium. A student piano recital featuring Celeste Arnim is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday in the Recital Hall.

The president of the SHSU chapter last year, Robert Barber, was also the recipient of one of only 14 national scholarships offered by the American Institute of Physics and the Society of Physics Students. He is now working toward a Ph. D. degree in physics at Texas A&M.
Chapter activities include physics demonstrations at area schools, and participation in the SMART (Science, Math, And Related Technologies) Day at Mance Park Junior High and Science & Technology 2000 in The Woodlands. A scholarship made possible by the donation of a calculator by Hewlett-Packard was awarded to physics major and SHSU Honors Program participant Pamela Fields.
"This chapter has achieved an enviable record unmatched by any other university in Texas," said Dr. Russell L. Palma, who chairs the Department of Physics. Chapter officers include Fields, president; George Verzi, vice-president; Thomas Ribardo, treasurer, and Tommy Binford, secretary. Dr. David Donnelly is the chapter advisor.
Activities include an organization fair, pep rally, and general session in Johnson Coliseum, housing tours, meetings with faculty members and advisors, and a session on admissions and financial aid.
The Saturdays at Sam recruitment program has two sessions each year. Another is scheduled for April 13, 1996. For details on either, call 294-1844.
Angela M. Williams, director of The Citadel Writing Center, spoke on "What's Going on in Writing-Across-the-Curriculum across the Country?" Dr. Patricia Williams is coordinator of the program at SHSU.
The dedication will take place on the SHSU campus Friday, Nov. 17 beginning at 4 p.m. at Elliot Hall, near the corner of 17th and Ave. J.
"Maskmakers of Mexico" can be seen Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through November 26.
The Ladykat volleyball team will compete in the Southland Conference Tournament Nov. 16-18 at Stephen F. Austin. The Ladykats finished second in the regular season and hope to upset SFA to advance in the NCAA playoffs.
The SHSU Bearkat football team visits the Southwest Texas State Bobcats for a 2 p.m. game Saturday.
