"We try to offer a wide variety of courses taught by well-qualified instructors," said Lynn White-Longmire, extended learning director. "With registration now underway and many classes beginning in January, some area residents are finding that these courses make excellent Christmas gifts."
Computer courses include Introduction to Computers, Intermediate Computers, Windows 3.11/WordPerfect 6.1, and User Friendly Electronic Information. Language courses include Spanish Level 1 and II, Lunchtime Spanish Level 1 and II, and Basic Sign Language.
Dance courses include Country and Western Dance Level I and II, Ballroom Dancing Level I and II, Line Dancing at Lunchtime, Swing Dancing at Lunchtime and Belly Dancing. Art courses include Painting with Watercolors and Art for Young People.

The department's Concert Choir will be featured in a short and light holiday program, said Wayne Barrett, director. This will be the third year for the December performance. Admission is free.
Additional music events for the week include a Flute Choir Concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Recital Hall. Admission is $5 for adults, with students admitted free. The Clarinet Choir will present a noon concert in the atrium of the Fine Arts Building on Wednesday. Admission is free.
Recitals include two events Sunday--a student recital featuring Jennifer Schuette at 4 p.m. and a student composition recital at 7:30 p.m. Both are in the Recital Hall and admission is free.
Martin Amorous, who chairs the Art Department, invites area patrons to join the instructors and students for food and festivities, and to possibly select a quality gift created by a future art great.
Patricia Williams, director of the Across-the-University Writing Program, said that the event is open to faculty on a first come basis, and is limited by the number of available computers. The registration deadline is Monday. Contact Williams for more information at 294-1143.
The moves are in preparation for a renovation of Estill, which will begin in December and is expected to be completed in approximately 21 months.
Financial Aid will operate an information center in the Lowman Student Center cloakroom Thursday, Friday, and Dec. 11, while the move is underway, and will re-open for business in White Hall Dec. 12. Admissions/Recruiting is scheduled to move Dec. 14 and 15.
Wednesday is the deadline for emergency loan applications for the first installment of spring semester tuition, which is due Dec. 13.
They include parliamentary procedure, FFA skills demonstrations, FFA radio broadcasting, creed speaking, public relations presentation and FFA quiz.
"This event is one of the highlights of the school year for FFA members who earn the right to represent one of the 10 areas of the state," said Herb Schumann, professor of agricultural education and chairman of the leadership development event.
SHSU agricultural education students also assist in conducting the various contests, and agricultural science teachers having expertise in the contest areas serve as judges.
