PRESIDENT RESIGNS EFFECTIVE DEC. 31

Dr. Martin J. Anisman has resigned as president of Sam Houston State University, effective Dec. 31, 1995.

Dr. Anisman said he informed the Board of Regents of The Texas State University System approximately one month ago that he intended to accept a position as a senior fellow with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, D. C.

Anisman said the board and he agreed that he would serve through the recent College of Business Administration and College of Education and Applied Science accreditation visits and 1995 homecoming activities, and that the announcement of his resignation would be postponed until today.

Anisman stated that the board has granted him a leave effective immediately and that he intends to pursue personal and professional goals for his future during this leave.

"My time at Sam Houston has been rewarding and delightful," said Anisman, who assumed the presidency on Sept. 1, 1989.

"I am grateful to the students, faculty, staff, alumni, and all other friends for their confidence and support during my tenure as president. I am confident that SHSU is in a wonderful position as it approaches the 21st century. My thanks and gratitude go to all those who supported me and my family during my more than six years as president, and I will always be appreciative."
