Dr. B. K. Marks, Sam Houston State interim president, said that SHSU is looking forward to participation in the University Center. "Good progress has been made on both undergraduate and graduate degree program plans for this innovative educational endeavor," said Marks.
Undergraduate subjects now planned include criminal justice, general business administration, psychology, applied arts and sciences, interdisciplinary studies with specializations including social studies and reading, and environmental science.
Graduate level offerings will include business administration, criminal justice, elementary education, secondary education and administrator and supervisor certificates in teacher education.
The first SHSU courses will be Introduction to Methods of Research, taught by Timothy J. Flanagan, professor and dean of the College of Criminal Justice; and Special Topics in Criminal Justice: Issues in Constitutional Law, taught by Jerry Dowling, professor of criminal justice and a former special agent for the FBI.
The University Center is a partnership of seven universities with facilities under construction in The Woodlands. Participating universities also include Rice, University of Houston, University of Houston-Downtown, Texas Southern, Texas A&M and Prairie View A&M.
Students will earn undergraduate and graduate degrees by selecting classes, all taught in The Woodlands, from several or all of the participating institutions.
