A former patrol officer, administrator and police chief, Williams has held his present position since November 1993. The Blackwood Institute is located in the Beto Criminal Justice Center at Sam Houston State University.
Appointment of the board, which will meet in Washington Feb. 21-23, is in support of Department of Justice efforts to strengthen community oriented policing efforts.
Since passage of the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act the Justice Department's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services efforts have resulted in the hiring of 31,000 additional police officers and sheriff's deputies and provided training and technical assistance.
Actually Gebert and Lake are good friends and musical partners and say they plan to present two sides of various musical "rivalries."
The first portion of the program will contain two "Allelujas," one by Bach and the other by Mozart. The second group of songs will include three poems by the French poet Paul Verlaine set to music by Gabriel Faure, then the same poems set by Claude Debussy.
The third part of the program will present three subjects described in song by Clara Schumann and her famous husband, Robert Schumann. The last section of the recital will consist of duets for two sopranos.
David Fleming will be the piano accompanist.
The original published dates were changed in June, 1994, and the change was publicized then. The correct dates are also in the Spring Semester Class Schedule, which was published in October, 1995.
While students and faculty have the entire week off, other employees will have March 21 and 22 as official holidays. Employees who chose to be off on Jan. 13 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday will have a one-day break.
A needlework workshop for adults seeking a new craft will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, from 1-5 p.m., also at the Walker Education Center.

"Our goal is to provide a program which will enrich and stimulate our ablest secondary students," said Dr. Patricia Williams, institute director. "This year's theme, 'Windows on the World: Past, Present, and Future,' will focus on broadening students' knowledge base and teaching them communications skills."
University faculty members and community leaders will present topics and direct activities. Recreational and field trips are also scheduled.
