The dinner theatre type event is scheduled for August 2 as a joint effort of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion and the offices of University Relations and Development and Alumni Relations at Sam Houston State.
The featured performers will be England's Anglian Open Air Shakespeare Company, presenting the Bard's popular study of power and politics, dictatorship and democracy--"Julius Caesar--" at 8 p.m.
Details on additional entertainment and the dinner menu are pending and will be announced soon, said Dion McInnis, director of University Relations and Development.
A limited number of tickets at $20 each are available through the University Relations and Development office at 294-3625. Visa and MasterCard billing will be accepted and the tickets mailed out on a first-come, first-served basis.
Eleven chapter members and their adviser, Dr. James Casey, accepted the 1996 Corbus Award in recognition of that achievement at the association's national convention in Missouri.
The award reflects chapter activities and promotion of academic scholarship and is determined by the submission of comprehensive reports by the chapters.
In addition, chapter member Jeanie Alaniz, a senior agricultural sciences major, was elected as national secretary for the 1996-'97 academic year. A team of three SHSU students, Carl Blank, Kevin Ruether, and Robin Scasta, also represented the chapter in the annual Quiz Bowl and advanced to the quarterfinals before being eliminated.
Twenty-three of the scholarships were awarded statewide to promising future leaders pursuing business degrees. This is the third consecutive year for a SHSU graduate business student to receive the award.
"This is a prestigious award," said Dr. R. Dean Lewis, interim dean of the College of Business Administration. "We are proud of Greg's achievement, the manner in which he has achieved it, and the recognition it brings our program for the third straight year."
Dickens is the manager of emergency medical services for the University of Texas Medical Branch/Texas Department of Criminal Justice correctional managed care facility in Huntsville. He started his career with the prison system in 1986 and progressed to his current position.
Dickens earned his bachelor of business administration degree in general business administration in 1994, while working full time. He is a 1981 graduate of Big Sandy High School.
Kelley will be recognized at the association's annual conference, to be held in mid-June.
Kelley's award was based on nominations made by students in the Department of Agricultural Sciences. He was also a finalist for the university's Excellence in Teaching Award this spring.
"Persons interested in keeping their pictures and paper documents from turning yellow with age will be interested in this workshop," said Derrick Birdsall, workshop coordinator.
The workshop is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. at the Walker Education Center, 19th Street and Avenue N. For more information, contact Birdsall at 294-1831.
