DAN RATHER TO LECTURE ON MEDIA ETHICS

"CBS Evening News" anchor Dan Rather will return to his alma mater, Sam Houston State University, on Nov. 25 to deliver the first of two lectures on media ethics.

The special two-day program, aimed at students pursuing careers in journalism, will incorporate a televised link between the campuses of SHSU and the University of Texas in Austin.

The Nov. 25 lecture begins at 11 a.m. in the Killinger Auditorium at SHSU's Criminal Justice Center. The SHSU presentation will be broadcast live to an audience at the University of Texas in Austin.

Rather will present a second lecture from UT the following day. His Nov. 26 speech will be televised live at 11 a.m. in Killinger Auditorium.

Rather is probably the most prominent American newsman to speak regularly on media ethics. Though his Nov. 25-26 lectures address students, his message is sure to appeal to anyone interested in the current state of American journalism.

Don Richardson, chair of SHSU's Department of Public Communications and event organizer, said the public is invited and encouraged to attend this event.

SATURDAY AT SAM

Potential students from throughout the state and especially Southeast Texas will be in Huntsville Saturday for the fall "Saturdays at Sam!" visitation day.

Prospective students and their guests will have the opportunity to view the campus, visit with faculty about majors and speak with representatives from admissions, financial aid, and residence life, said Barrie Glasscock, event coordinator.

Students interested in attending the event can call 294-1828 for additional information.
