The week's events include seven concerts by student and faculty groups from the SHSU music department as well as guest performances, lectures, paper presentations and social events.
One of the highlights is expected to be an open band and wind ensemble "master class" with Husa from 1-5 p.m. Saturday. The SHSU Wind Ensemble and several Houston area high school bands will rehearse with Husa.
The week's events include a student composition recital at 3 p.m. Wednesday and Chamber Ensemble (piano, percussion, trumpet, clarinet) concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, both in the Recital Hall.
Thursday events include a Faculty Chamber Ensemble concert at 3 p.m. in the Walker Education Center and Faculty Chamber Ensemble and SHSU Opera Players concert at 7:30 p.m. in Killinger Auditorium.
On Friday Husa will lecture at 10 a.m., with a Faculty Chamber Ensemble concert at 4 p.m. in the Recital Hall and SHSU Chorale, Symphonic Choir and Chamber Music concert at 7:30 p. m. in Killinger Auditorium.
Paper presentations and panel sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, a dinner and reception is set for 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Music Building atrium, and the final concert, featuring the SHSU Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, begins at 7:30 p.m. in Killinger Auditorium.

The images, to be exhibited in the main gallery of the museum's Katy and E. Don Walker Education Center, feature the work of four noteworthy photographic pioneers who, in the mid-1800s, engaged in a variety of projects aimed at surveying and promoting the vast expanse of unsettle U.S. territory.
. "Most of the people living in Boston, New York and Philadelphia had never been west of the Hudson River," said Patrick Nolan, director of the Sam Houston Memorial Museum. "It was the images captured by these early artists that created the mythology of the western frontier."
Sam Houston Memorial Museum is located at the corner of 19th Street and Avenue N in Huntsville, Texas. The museum is open from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Tours are given Saturdays and Sundays at 1 p.m. and by arrangement to large groups.

One of the top events will be Sigepalooza, a live rock concert featuring Atticus Finch, Chlorine, and Not My Fault, at 7 p.m. Thursday in Johnson Coliseum. Presented by Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and the Program Council, the event's proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.
Free food, drink, music and games will be available at "The All Nighter" from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. in the Health and Kinesiology Center. Sponsors are Recreational Sports and Coca-Cola.
The Delta Tau Delta Crawfish Festival, with live bands and real Louisiana crawfish, is scheduled for noon-midnight Thursday at the Jolly Fox. Also on Thursday, an intramural tennis tournament is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the McAdams Courts, also sponsored by Recreational Sports.
The movie "Evita" will be shown three times, including 7 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday, and 3 p.m. next Sunday in the Lowman Student Center Theatre. Admission is free.
Spectator sporting events include the Bearkat baseball team against the University of Texas at San Antonio at noon Saturday and Sunday at Holleman Field and the Bearkat tennis team against Stephen F. Austin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the McAdams Courts.
SHSU students are also invited to help welcome thousands of potential Bearkats and provide information on SHSU organizations from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Saturdays at Sam organizations fair at Johnson Coliseum.

In conjunction with the event, the Undergraduate Admissions Office is looking for current SHSU students to help with the event. Volunteers can call the office at extension 1828. Volunteer meetings are scheduled Monday at 1 p.m. and Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Admissions Visitor Center in White Hall.
The event itself begins with check-in and packet and name tag pick-up at the Johnson Coliseum from 8-8:30 a.m. The general assembly at 8:30 a.m. will include a welcome, video, and presentations on admissions, the Texas Academic Skills Program, and Residence Life.
Visitors will have the opportunity to attend two academic sessions, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Campus tours are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Financial aid information will be available from 11:15 a.m. to noon in Johnson Coliseum.
The Organizations Fair on the coliseum floor from noon to 1 p.m. will include t-shirts and door prizes as well as performances by the SHSU Cheerleaders, Sammy and Samantha, the Bearkat Pep Squad, and the Orange Pride dance team.

Judy DeTrude, assistant professor, will be working with the Diocese of Galveston/Houston to examine the marriages of leader couples who provide premarital training to engaged couples. She will provide these couples communication/enrichment activities that can enhance their own marriages and also be taught to the engaged couples.
Dashiel J. Geyen, assistant professor, will research the spread of HIV/AIDS from unprotected sex and drug use among African-American women. The research project is a joint effort with the Beaumont City Health Department.
Students with grade point averages of 3.0 or higher and those who are outstanding organization leaders will be honored.
The banquet is being hosted by the SHSU Office of Multicultural/International Student Services. It was established to recognize students who exemplify commitment, dedication and excellence in their college careers.

A former student and champion rodeo performer, Sikes became an SHSU employee in 1959, rising to the rank of professor of agriculture. Under his direction the SHSU rodeo team has won many national and regional championships and built a reputation as one of the top collegiate rodeo teams in the United States.
Sikes and his wife have also served as leaders in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
The L. N. Sikes Endowment has been established to provide scholarships for outstanding rodeo athletes at SHSU. Sikes has asked that financial contributions in honor of his retirement go into the endowment fund.
