"The students chosen to perform were selected by audition and represent the premier performance abilities of each area of instrumental study," said Charlotte Tull, special faculty member in music.
"For music lovers in the community who have watched the students both in solo and ensemble through the years, this may be a last opportunity to experience the joy of a live performance by these students."
Scheduled to perform are Christy Allee, flute; Karen Baty, soprano; Luvanna Brown, piano; Josefat Jaime, bassoon; Doris Longoria, cello; Tim Maynard percussion; Dwayne Rice, percussion; Jennifer Schuette, clarinet; Rochelle Sennet, piano; David Smith-Barry, tuba; Clay Stansberry, alto saxophone and Jay Whatley, piano.
Immediately following the program a reception will be held to honor and recognize student achievements in the music department during the past year.

The program, consisting of six works, includes several different instrumental ensembles as well as pieces for piano and voice.
Hanna credits his family for their encouragement and support, and for providing a creative environment. His mother is a writer, his father a landscape architect, his grandmother a pianist and composer. Even the poster for Hanna's Monday concert was designed from a painting by Hanna's 11-year-old cousin, Devon Hanna.
Hanna earned his bachelor of music degree from SHSU in 1987 and his master's in 1995. He is now a piano instructor and director of one of the university jazz groups.

Monday is the deadline for entry in the recreational sports department's faculty/staff tournament. The entry fee of $30 per player includes all fees, practice balls, gifts, lunch, a post-tournament raffle and the chance to win a number of individual and team prizes.
SHSU faculty and staff who are not on a team may enter and be placed on a team by Rec Sports, which is located in Room 104 of the Health and Kinesiology Building.
May 15 is the entry deadline for the Mickey Tull Memorial Scholarship Endowment Golf Tournament. The entry fee of $100 per player includes practice balls, carts, refreshment and lunch. Individual and team prizes will also be awarded.
Team or individual entries will be accepted. Businesses which would like to participate may also do so by sponsoring a hole.

The women's team, which finished first in regionals, is composed of Ginger Brigance of Magnolia, Ceslie Burton of Trinity, Jami Orlando of Navasota and Christy Sikes of Huntsville.
Burton finished 2nd all-around in regionals. Her dad was on the SHSU national championship team in 1960.
The men's team is led by Trey Fisher of Madisonville, who was all-around champion in regionals. Other members are Bubba Miller of Woodville, who was bareback champion, Lyle Smith of Bedias, Randall Richards of Bryan, Jason Barton of Cameron and Cody Munlin of Pasadena.
The coach of both teams is Sonny Sikes, who was a member of Sam Houston State's first national championship rodeo team in 1956. Since then SHSU teams have won seven more team championships, more than any other college or university.
"This year we will focus on broadening students' knowledge base and teaching them communication skills," said Donna Owens, institute director. "University faculty members and prominent community members will provide a challenging program of activities, encompassing a wide range of areas so there will be 'something for everyone.'"

Also under way in the Gaddis Geeslin Gallery from 2-5 p.m. daily through Friday will be an exhibition and sale of art by retired faculty member Joe Polley Paine.
All proceeds from that sale will go toward the Polley Art Scholarships. Paine will be present each afternoon during the exhibition.
The students and their topics included: Meredith Barlow, "Winnie Verloc--The True Anarchist;" Ken Reinhardt, "An Alternative Myth to the Texas Revolution;" and Kristi Schober, "The Effects of Alzheimer's Disease on Families."
In addition, an SHSU alumna, Kimberly Orr, sang and played the guitar. Patricia Williams, sponsor of the SHSU chapter (Texas Omicron), is serving as vice president of the national council of Alpha Chi and was instrumental in the national convention arrangements.
The SHSU chapter was selected as one of the top seven from among 320 chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United States.
Summer sessions are scheduled for June 3-July 8 and July 9-Aug. 13. Summer commencement is Aug. 16. The fall semester begins Aug. 25.
