The Texas State University System Board of Regents adopted the following resolution, and presented it to Monday:
"Whereas, Jane Clements Monday, a native daughter of Texas from Huntsville, has exhibited over the course of her life and professional career exceptional qualities of intellect and leadership in education, public service, and civic activities; and
"Whereas, Jane Clements Monday has devoted six years of dedicated, unselfish, and untiring service to this Board of Regents and the universities governed by this Board, including distinguished service as chairman, during which time she helped guide the successful integration of the Lamar University components into The Texas State University System; and
"Whereas, Jane Clements Monday, as a graduate of Huntsville High School and of the University of Texas at Austin, has continued her lifetime involvement in education at various levels-teacher of history and of Texas history; member of the University of Texas at Austin, College of Education Advisory Council, of which she is a founding member; recognition as outstanding alumna of the College of Education; and member of local and university parent teacher associations; and
"Whereas, Jane Clements Monday has taught through her writings as well, notably the award winning "From Slave to Statesman, The Legacy of Joshua Houston" and "The Vaqueros of the Wild Horse Desert," published by the prestigious University of Texas Press; and
"Whereas, Jane Clements Monday has long been a civic leader, serving on the Huntsville Chamber of Commerce Tourism Division, Vice President of the Huntsville Rotary Club, the Huntsville Planning Commission, the City Council, and six years as Mayor of the city of Huntsville;
"Now, therefore be it resolved, that the Board of Regents of The Texas State University System enthusiastically and unanimously adopts this Resolution in honor of Jane Clements Monday for the innumerable contributions she has made to The Texas State University System and the faculty, students, and staff under its stewardship and for her lifetime service to all Texans."
