WOMEN LEADERS TO GATHER IN SAN ANTONIO

Aspiring women from all walks of life will gather in San Antonio July 23-25 for the Women & Leadership Conference, which is co-sponsored by two departments at Sam Houston State University.

"The event was organized to provide support, encouragement, and an exchange of ideas between women who are making a difference in the world," said Beverly Irby, professor of educational leadership, one of the co-sponsoring departments.

Other sponsors include the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission and SHSU's Office of Extended Learning.

"The purpose of the conference is to allow professional women to come together to enhance their leadership skills and to learn how to balance their personal and professional lives," said Irby.

Women & Leadership speakers will include: Vicki Wright, executive director of the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission; Alice Rowe, author and educator; Irma Herrera, executive director of Equal Rights Advocates; and Evelyn Farmer, associate superintendent of the Fredericksburg Independent School District.

Conference topics include: "Leadership Skills," "The Six Habits of Highly Balanced People," "Creating Balance and Success in the Male Word," "Moomba Laughter: The Motivational Soul for the Next Millennium," "Balancing Power with Caring," and others.

Conference participants are invited to submit their tips and suggestions in the areas of "Self-Care" and "Balance and Stress Release."

The event will be held at the Menger Hotel, located in San Antonio's Riverwalk district. The deadline for making hotel reservations is June 23. On-site registration begins July 23 at 2:50 p.m., with an opening reception at 5 p.m.

Registration is $150 before July 11, and $175 after that date and on-site. Send payment to the Sam Houston State University Office of Extended Learning; Huntsville, TX 77341-2477.
