Competition begins at 9:15 a.m. Friday and continues through 4:45 p.m. Saturday. Matches are scheduled for rooms 301, 303, 304, 308 and 312 of the Lowman Student Center. Spectators are welcome and there is no admission charge.
All teams will have three matches on Friday and one Saturday, with the top 24 teams advancing to the first elimination round. The winning school earns the right to represent Texas at the Panasonic National Academic Challenge at Disney World in Florida in June.
Teams also scheduled to compete include Edinburg North, Lubbock, Klein Forest, Plano, Gatesville, Lamar (Houston), Ysleta, Bellaire, Clear Lake, Westfield, Weatherford, Temple, Reicher Catholic (Waco), Klein, Denison, Breckenridge, Mission, Memorial, Elkins (Sugar Land), Nederland, Plano East, Port Isabel, Stratford, Cistercian Prep (Irving) and St. John's (Houston).
Frank Fair, professor of philosophy, is the contest director. A number of other members of the SHSU faculty and SHSU honors students are serving as hosts, judges, moderators and scorekeepers.
