Bouse Named
To Advancement Post

Gary A. Bouse, former associate vice chancellor for institutional advancement and director of corporate and foundation relations for the Texas Tech University System, has been named executive director of advancement at Sam Houston State University, effective Feb. 1.

In addition to earning his bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&M, in 1985 and 1986, Bouse expects to complete work on his doctorate at Indiana University (Bloomington) later this year. He has worked in advancement and fund-raising positions at Indiana University, Georgia Southern University, Auburn University and Oklahoma State University. He also worked as a summer intern in the Office of Development at Hanover College in Indiana.

"I am honored to have the opportunity to serve an institution with such historical significance to the state of Texas and the Southwest as Sam Houston State University," said Bouse. "I look forward to working with President (Bobby K.) Marks and the outstanding faculty, staff and alumni of SHSU."

Marks has indicated that fund-raising is one of his three major concerns, along with student retention and the use of technology for instructional programs.

"We're looking forward to having him here," said Marks. "His experience in institutional advancement along with his educational credentials certainly indicate that he should be a valuable asset to SHSU."

In addition to research toward his doctoral dissertation topic: "Factors that Impact Presidential Satisfaction with Fund Raising at Selected Colleges and Universities," Bouse has participated in a number of fund-raising and professional seminars and conferences sponsored by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

His associations and affiliations include CASE, the National Society of Fund Raising Executives and the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy.

Bouse traces his interest in fund-raising and advancement to his work as a volunteer for the Texas A&M University Association of Former Students, which he began soon after his graduation and which he continues.

He also did early volunteer work for the Indiana University School of Education. His first position as a development assistant was at Indiana University in 1989.

Bouse and his wife, Rebecca, have a son, Garrett, and are expecting another child in June.
