Hebert (Mathematical and Information Sciences), David W. Donnelly (Physics), John D. Barnosky (Public Communication), Alice A. Ketchand (Accounting), Myrna Cintron (Criminal Justice), Stanley F. Kelley, (Agricultural Sciences), Robin R. McGrew-Zoubi (Curriculum and Instruction), Mary Ann Berry (Library Science), Teresa S. Lesesne (Library Science).

Faculty development leaves were approved for Barry A. Friedman, associate professor of physics, who will conduct research in Japan during the 1998-'99 academic year; William E. Kilbourne, professor of marketing, who will conduct research in the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Spain during the 1998 fall semester; and Raymond H. C. Teske, Jr., professor of Criminal Justice, who will conduct research in Germany during the 1999 spring semester.

Darryl Patrick, professor of art, will direct the 1999 summer study program in Florence, Italy, with additional trips to Pisa, Siena, Venice and Rome. Departure is tentatively scheduled May 18 and course completion June 8. Participating students can enroll for three hours of credit (History of Italian Art), and non-credit students will also be accepted on a space available basis.

Patrick said that up to 75 students will be accepted, with costs of up to $3,000 for transportation, lodging, and some meals, and $228.50 for tuition and fees. Details are available from him (409) 294-1561 or the Art Department (409) 294-1315.

Bobby K. Marks, Sam Houston president, told members of The Texas State University System Board of Regents that program benefits include providing students the opportunity to study in an environment that has stimulated artists for centuries, offering faculty members the use of original artwork as teaching materials and in research, and providing the university the prestige of offering study abroad in an area rich in art and history.

Gifts accepted include 37 registered Angus cows from David Gust of Iberia, Mo. They will be used in the animal science/beef cattle production/management courses and for research in animal reproduction, nutrition, management and physiology.

Other gifts include $15,000 from the Ron Mafrige family for the Ron Mafrige Endowment in Honor of Glenn Adams; $10,000 from Dr. and Mrs. Jack S. Staggs for the Jack Staggs Dissertation Award Endowment Fund; $10,000 from Mr. and Mrs. Ivan H. Bickel for the Scott A. Bickel Endowed Scholarship Fund; $6,500 from the SHSU Lettermen Association to the Department of Athletics for strength training and tutorial expenses; $5,000 from the Brenham Banner-Press for the Charles Moser/Brenham Banner-Press Journalism Endowment Fund, and $5,000 from Fred Sullins for the Eric Sullins Memorial Endowment Fund.

The holiday schedule for 1998-'99 was set as follows:

Thanksgiving (Nov. 26-27); Christmas (Dec. 23-31); New Year's Day (Jan. 1); Martin Luther King, Jr., Day (Jan. 18); Spring Break for staff (March 18-19); Memorial Day (May 31).

Religious holidays which may be taken in lieu of other designated holidays include Rosh Hashana (Sept. 21-22); Yom Kippur (Sept. 30); and Good Friday (April 2).
