Melissa Renee Sinclair
Scholarship Created
An endowed scholarship fund has been established to honor Melissa Renee Sinclair, a Sam Houston State University criminal justice student whose degree will be conferred posthumously in May.
"Melissa Renee Sinclair was an enthusiastic Criminal Justice major whose desire was to work with troubled youths," according to the endowed scholarship agreement. "The tragic accident that claimed her life represents a great loss not only to her family, but to a field sorely in need of the kind of dedication and spirit she exemplified."
Donors plan to award an annual $1,000 scholarship, contingent upon earnings of the endowment, with the initial award to be announced in the 1998 spring semester for use in the fall.
Students eligible for the award should be criminal justice majors with 72-80 semester hours completed, be working his/her way through college, and have an overall grade point average of at least 2.25.
Applicants must submit a one-page essay on how receiving the scholarship will help them attain their educational goals. The scholarship selection committee will use financial need and demonstrated desire to obtain an education as overriding criteria.
Applicants should contact the office of the dean of the College of Criminal Justice, (409) 294-1632, for information.
Contributors who would like to participate may do so by sending donations to the Office of University Advancement, Box 2537, Huntsville, TX 77341-2537. Call (409) 294-3625 for more information.
