'Creating Balance in Your Life'

2nd Annual Women & Leadership Conference
Scheduled for July 8-10 in San Antonio, Texas

Professional women juggling career and family responsibilities often fail to schedule enough personal time on their busy agendas. As a result, their success, however grand, is often achieved at the expense of personal happiness.

This summer, professional women from across the nation will gather in San Antonio, Texas to discuss the path to personal fulfillment at the Second Annual Women and Leadership Conference.

At this year's event, themed "Creating a Balance in Your Life," several prominent women will share their personal experience with mastering their careers and personal lives.

Among the conference's distinguished speakers will be:

  • Vicki Spriggs, executive director of the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission;
  • Kathryn J. Whitmire, Houston mayor from 1982-92; and
  • Jane Vallier, Iowa State University professor and author.

A series of mini-sessions aimed at enhancing leadership and life management skills will highlight the three-day event.

Session topics include:

  • "A Balancing Act for the Daughters that Follow,"
  • "Igniting Your Human Potential,"
  • "Using Technology to enhance Women's Leadership,"
  • "Strategies for Ensuring Success for New Administrators,"
  • "Find the Gold at the End of the Rainbow,"
  • "Maintaining a Positive Mental Attitude,"
  • "Mastering Your Information Environment,"
  • "Integrated Leadership for the 21st Century,"
  • "Gender Patterns in Organizational Communication,"
  • and many more.
The Second Annual Women and Leadership Conference will be held July 8-10 at San Antonio's Crowne Plaza St. Anthony Hotel. The event is sponsored by the Sam Houston State University Office of Continuing Education, the SHSU Department of Educational Leadership and Counseling, and the Vocational Equity Project in collaboration with the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission.

Those attending the conference will be eligible for 1.45 continuing education credits (CEU) and 14.5 training hours for the Criminal Justice Assistance Division/Texas Juvenile Probation Commission, Texas Certification Board of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors, Licensed Professional Counselors and Social Work.
