'Magicians of Basketball'

Harlem Globetrotters to Dazzle Basketball Fans
Feb. 3 at SHSU's Bernard Johnson Coliseum

The Harlem Globetrotters, perhaps the most popular, most recognized and most revered basketball team in the world, are suiting up for an all-star Feb. 3 performance at SHSU's Bernard Johnson Coliseum.

For more than 70 years, the "Magicians of Basketball" have entertained more than 100 million fans while bringing innovations and their spirit of goodwill to the game.

In keeping with their legacy as innovators in the sport of basketball, the Globetrotters are a tradition that is anything but traditional. From artistic and acrobatic slam-dunks and their magical competitive play, to sidesplitting comic skits, their team mascot Globie, theatrical lighting and special effects, a hard-driving musical score, and more, event organizers promise something for everyone in the family.

Their roster includes two players who held the world's record in the vertical slam-dunk at an amazing height of 12 feet.

The famous red, white and blue will face their worldly opponents, the New York Nationals. And, youngsters and adults can meet their favorite stars and get personal autographs after the game.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Johnson Coliseum on Feb. 3. Harlem Globetrotters tickets, priced from $17.50 to $10.50, are available at Cavenders Boot City in Huntsville and at Brookshire Bros. grocery in Madisonville, as well as at the coliseum box office. A discount is available for senior citizens and for youth age 12 and under. Discounts are also available for groups of 25 or more. For complete ticket information call (409) 294-1740.

Fabulous Globetrotter merchandise will also be available at the show.

In 1996, "Q" ratings determined the Harlem Globetrotters the "most liked and recognized" sports team in the United States. The team has performed for more that 100 million people in 114 countries in its 71-year history.
