A total of 1,016 students have applied for degrees to be awarded in two ceremonies--at 10 a.m. for the Colleges of Education and Applied Science and Criminal Justice and 2 p.m. for the Colleges of Business Administration and Arts and Sciences. Allemang, who received Sam Houston State University's Distinguished Alumni Award last fall, joined Dow in 1965 in Freeport after earning a bachelor's degree in chemistry. After five years in the solvents development lab, he transferred to Germany. In 1972 he returned to the United States for various technical and managerial assignments. He was named unit manager for Dow's chlorinated ethanes operation in Freeport in 1981, and two years later assumed the same role for light hydrocarbons and acetylene. In 1984, he transferred to The Netherlands, to become production manager for light hydrocarbons, and in 1986, became responsible for process control and engineering functions. In 1988 he returned to Freeport to manage the site's hydrocarbons production and then moved to Midland, Mich., in 1989 as director of technology centers. In 1992, Allemang was named general manager of manufacturing for Dow Benelux, and in 1993 was named regional vice president, manufacturing operations, for Dow in Europe. In 1995 he was named vice president for operations and continues to lead Dow's global operations. Allemang serves on the board of directors for Liana Limited and Dorinco Reinsurance Company and the Members Committee of Dupont Dow Elastomers LLC. He is an advisory board member of the Center for Chemical Process Safety of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Kansas State University College of Engineering advisory council. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the Corporate Executive Board's Operations Management Roundtable, and National Academy of Engineering's Action Forum on Diversity. He is also a member of the board of directors for the National Association of Manufacturers and is a member of the National Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing's Skill Standards Council Steering Committee. He was elected to the Dow Board of Directors in 1996 and serves the Environment, Health, Safety & Public Policy Committee. He is also a member of the Corporate Operating Board.
