SHSU Museum To Keep And Display Historic Houston Sword

A document was signed Tuesday on the writing desk once used by General Sam Houston. The document was an agreement between the Sons of the Republic of Texas and Sam Houston State University, under which a sword once owned by Sam Houston and now owned by the Sons of the Republic of Texas will be displayed by the museum but used periodically by the SRT for ceremonial purposes. Signing the agreement were J. Richard Reese of Houston, left, president general of the SRT, and Patrick Nolan, museum director. The sword is in the case in the lower right corner of this photo.
