Summer Repertory To Present Student-Directed Productions

July 27, 2010

The SHSU Department of Theatre and Dance will present four student-directed productions in July and August, including “Quarter-Life Crisis,” “Quick Change Room,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “Kitty Kitty Kitty.”

Performances will be held at 8 p.m. each day in the University Theatre Center’s Showcase Theatre.

The Summer II Repertory Theatre will open with “Quarter-Life Crisis,” an original script written by SHSU theatre major Erik Holm, on July 29-30.

The reading revolves around the relationship of three college roommates as they grow into adulthood, learning to overcome their differences and accepting one another no matter their backgrounds, college-boy shenanigans or religious views.

Directed by senior theatre major Addison Roush, the cast is comprised of Joshua Moore, Zane Thrift, Jeremy Brown, Alyssa Araguz and Kyle Atkinson.

The stage manager is Caitlin Kellermeyer, and the lighting designer is senior theatre major Mike Weiss.

Nagle Jackson’s “Quick Change Room” will be presented on July 31 and Aug. 1.

Set during the tumultuous early 1990s in St. Petersburg, the comedy presents the story of the goings on in a Russian theatre’s quick-change room—a small dressing room just off of the stage where actors go to get help during fast costume changes—as the struggling acting company learns to change their artistic principles in favor of the new trendy, commercialized ideals.

Directed by theatre major RuShone Johnican, the cast includes Liz Tinder, Chaney Moore, Tamara Draper, Randall Carpenter, Richard McKinney, Trey Kroon, Kate Rose, Melissa Molano and Jeremy Brown.

The stage manager for the production is Kathleen Bossart.

The Manhattan Theatre Project’s rendition of Alice in Wonderland, presented Aug. 2-3, provides an impulsive, energetic new experience that re-connects audiences to curiously familiar characters and compels young Alice (Adrianna Jones) to wonder how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Directed by senior musical theatre major Dominic DiFelice, the cast also includes Zane Thrift, Kate Rose, Trey Kroon, Da’rel Johnson, Adrian Coco Anderson, Whitney Coulter, John Ryan DelBosque, Aaron Phillips, Randall Carpenter and Richard McKinney.

The stage manager is SHSU theatre alumnus Calvin Hudson, and the lighting designer is Mike Weiss.

“Kitty Kitty Kitty,” Noah Haidle’s innovative tale of forbidden love, loss and acceptance that is the result of altering Mother Nature’s plans by cloning, will be presented on Aug. 4-5.

The comedy follows Kitty (Garret Storms), who is looking for a companion and finds one, not in another Kitty but in his clone Kitty Kitty (Sam Weeks).

Directed by senior theatre major Ashtyn Sonner, the cast also includes James Smith, Patrick Massey, Erik Holm, John Ryan DelBosque and Adrian CoCo Anderson.

The stage manager is Caitlin Kellermeyer and the lighting designer is Mike Weiss.

Donations will be accepted at the door.

All shows contain adult language and content; therefore, children under the age of 3 will not be admitted.

Parking is available behind the Newton Gresham Library, and a complimentary golf cart will be in the parking lot to assist patrons to the theatre door free of charge.
