SHSU Associate Vice President for Information Technology Mark C. Adams is reporting to President Dana Gibson as chief information officer, effective Aug. 21.
“The role of technology for the operation of a university is critical,” said Gibson. “With the completion of Tom Graf’s seven-month assignment on Aug. 20 as interim vice president for information technology, it is necessary to keep the chief technology officer’s position at the President’s Cabinet level.”
Adams has served as associate vice president for information technology since 2006. He is responsible for the executive level management of the university’s information technology division, consisting of approximately 80 full time staff and 80 part time workers.
He has oversight of centralized information technology operations, including classroom technology support, administrative computing systems, servers, information security, service desk, web site, networks, telephone and cable TV, as well as all technology-related procurement and projects for campus. He also serves as the external liaison for campus technology relationships and collaborative projects.
He has also served as SHSU’s associate director and assistant director of computer services, computer systems coordinator, and programmer analyst.
He is currently a member of the board of directors for the Texas Connection Consortium of Sun Gard Banner and the Lone Star Educational and Research Network. He also has served as a board member of the Texas Association of State Systems for Computing and Communication and the chair of the awareness committee of the organization.
