Athletics Offering 'Go Bearkats' Placards To Area Businesses

The Huntsville area business community is getting behind the No. 1 ranked Sam Houston State football team for its NCAA Division I Football playoff run with special “Go Kats!” placards in their store front windows.

The 11-0 Bearkats will host either No. 22 Stony Brook or Albany on Saturday (Dec.) 3 in a 2 p.m. NCAA second-round game at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN3. As No. 1 seed in the playoffs, Sam Houston also will host quarterfinal and semifinal games the next two weeks if the Kats keep winning.

To show their support for the Bearkats, area businesses may pick up “Go Kats!” placards at the Huntsville—Walker County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Huntsville Service Center on Highway 75 North beginning Monday. The placards also will available for pickup at City Hall beginning Wednesday.

Holding the No. 1 spot in the final regular season NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision national poll, the 2011 Bearkats have achieved their highest FCS national ranking in school history. The Kats’ 11-0 record and current 13-game winning streak also are school records.

“One of the key factors to our success this season has been playing at home six times before our great fans at Bowers Stadium," Sam Houston head coach Willie Fritz said. "The Bearkats have never lost a home playoff game. The great support we get from our community is one reason why. We want to see as many people as we can in Orange rooting the team on Dec. 3."

Tickets for the NCAA Division I Football Playoff games at Bowers Stadium may be purchased now online at www.gobearkats.com/tickets.

The Bearkat athletic ticket office in the Ron Mafrige Fieldhouse at Bowers Stadium is open this week through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. The ticket office will be open Monday (Nov. 28) through Friday (Dec. 2), from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ticket prices are $25 for reserved chairback seats, $20 for bleacher reserved and $15 for general admission seats.
