If you recently got an e-mail from “nobody” requesting you to complete a survey, don’t worry….it’s okay.
On March 20, an e-mail from “nobody@modernthink.net,” with the message subject, “Chronicle Great Colleges To Work For,” was sent to approximately 600 SHSU faculty and staff. The email contained the link to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s Great Colleges To Work For web survey.
“We are participating in this program to provide excellence by continually improving quality education, scholarship and service to our students and to appropriate regional, state, national and international constituencies,” said SHSU President Dana Gibson.
“After participating in this survey last year, our university was recognized in multiple categories as a great place to work,” she said.
The study is sponsored by The Chronicle of Higher Education and ModernThink, a research and consulting firm that specializes in organization culture and workplace excellence.
In addition to soliciting employees’ opinions and perceptions about the university’s work environment, the survey asks for an assessment of human resource practices and services such as employee compensation, benefits, internal communication and collaboration, and the availability of support services such as wellness programs, training and development opportunities.
Employees who have not responded to the survey by next week will receive another reminder from ModernThink. The deadline to complete the survey is April 15. The results of the study will be published in The Chronicle of Higher Education on July 29, 2011.
“We’ve asked ModernThink to identify itself more clearly in future correspondence, because the “nobody” sender may have caused some confusion about the legitimacy of the email and the survey,” said Rita Caso, director of SHSU’s Institutional Research and Assessment Office.
“All survey responses go directly to the ModernThink research firm and will be analyzed by them,” Caso said. “SHSU employees will have complete confidentiality.”
Employees who have questions about the survey or who want to verify its authenticity can contact Martha Blume in SHSU’s Office of Institutional Research and Assessment at extension 4-4382 or via e-mail at mpb005@shsu.edu.
