SHSU Ranks High Among Colleges With Low Student Debt

In a recent U. S. News & World Report ranking of colleges with the most and least student debt, Sam Houston State University ranked second, behind Princeton University, with the least average amount of debt incurred by graduates.
The rankings, based on figures for the class of 2010, show that 46 percent of SHSU graduates had an average amount of $7,602 debt.
No. 1 ranked Princeton was listed with 24 percent of their graduates having an average debt of $4,385.
In addition to Sam Houston State, other Texas schools making the list of least student debt were Lamar University (63 percent, $12,110); Texas Tech (40 percent, $11,502); and Rice University (36 percent, $13,944). Rounding out the list were Yale University, Harvard University, California Institute of Technology, Brigham Young University, and Louisiana Tech University.
Universities with the most student debt included: University of North Dakota; Clark Atlanta University; Nova Southeastern University; Barry University; Florida Institute of Technology; New York University; Widener University; Case Western Reserve University; Stevens Institute of Technology; and Fordham University.
