The Cartoon Network’s Third Annual “Move It Movement Tour” will make a stop in Huntsville on the campus of Sam Houston State University, on Aug. 12 from 1-5 p.m.
The tour is a summer campaign targeting youth 6-14, in partnership with the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition and in support of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative.
Presented in a themed, outdoor environment, the tour features multiple activity and learning stations, incorporating such additional core partner organizations as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, NBA/WNBA FIT & NBA Hoop Troop, NFL PLAY 60 and The PGA of America.
All activities will take place on the Johnson Coliseum parking lot.
“The ‘Move It Movement Tour’ is part of Cartoon Network’s long-established award-winning, pro-social efforts to provide support and encouragement in the ongoing battle against childhood obesity through such varied activities as daily recess, health and wellness education, and active after-school involvement,” said Stuart Snyder, president and COO of Cartoon Network.
“This summer tour has become one of our favorite annual events as it provides us a great opportunity to interact with our core audience on a grassroots level,” he said. “Kids tell us they love the activities, while parents say they truly appreciate our bringing this hands-on event directly to their neighborhoods.”
The tour has made stops this summer in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, Seattle, Phoenix, Tampa, Denver, Sacramento, Orlando, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.
The tour will conclude at SHSU, which is serving as the site for the “Houston and surrounding area” locale.
Among the featured activities are basketball shooting games; a PGA driving range; football running and passing events; skateboard demonstrations; soccer shootout; and a station with nutrition tips and information promoting participation with “Let’s Move!” and the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.
There will also be a Cartoon Network Chill Zone providing water and a green screen photo activity, as well as a “Stop Bullying: Speak Up” pledge station.
