SammypaloozaSHSU is ready to rock its way into the fall semester.

Alt-rock sensations The All-American Rejects and Grammy winner Ludacris will headline the third annual Sammypalooza on Aug. 27.

The concert, featuring special guest Eve 6, will begin at 7:30 p.m. after doors open at 6:30 at Sam Houston State University’s Johnson Coliseum.

Brandon Cooper, associate director for the SHSU Department of Student Activities, said the university is pleased to offer high-caliber entertainment this year.

“We are just really excited about these three performers,” he said. “It’s our biggest Sammypalooza to date and we are really excited about this event.”

All-American Rejects are known for hits like “Gives You Hell,” and “Dirty Little Secret.” The group has won MTV music awards and Teen Choice Awards. Ludacris, a rapper and actor, has won three Grammy awards for best rap song/collaboration for “Yeah,” in 2005 and best rap song for “Release Therapy” and best album for Money Maker in 2007.

Students, faculty and staff with Bearkat OneCards will get free tickets, available today at the Johnson Coliseum Box Office by calling 936.294.3021. Everyone else will have to try to make friends with a student—who can get up to three extra tickets—or a faculty and staff member—who can get one extra ticket, or two tickets total.

“This event is geared toward students,” Cooper said. “The emphasis is on the student population, but staff can also get tickets with a Bearkat OneCard. This is such a great opportunity for students.”

While Huntsville is close to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands and Houston venues that all offer big-name musical talent, Cooper said it’s nice to bring that talent into Huntsville.

“This is SHSU’s way to bring such a great program to students here,” he said. “They can stay here, walk to the coliseum and walk back to their dorms or apartments. It’s a great way to start the semester before classes start Aug. 29. They will have had chance to get settled a little bit then get entertained and have a great evening.”

Sammypalooza will start at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the SHSU Johnson Coliseum. Tickets are free for Bearkat OneCard holders.
