Sam Houston State University will offer youth a way to “get moving” during a day of games and activities on Aug. 11 when The Cartoon Network will bring its 2013 Move It Movement Tour to SHSU’s The Woodlands Center.
The fourth annual event will make its final stop in Houston that day from noon to 4 p.m.
The tour is a summer campaign targeting youth 6-14, in partnership with the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition and in support of First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative.
Presented in a themed, outdoor environment, the tour features multiple activity and learning stations, incorporating such additional core partner organizations as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, NBA/WNBA FIT & NBA Hoop Troop, NFL PLAY 60 and The PGA of America and Subway Fresh Fit for Kids.
All activities are free, and food will be available for purchase in The Woodlands Center.
“The ‘Move It Movement Tour’ is part of Cartoon Network’s long-established award-winning, pro-social efforts to provide support and encouragement in the ongoing battle against childhood obesity through such varied activities as daily recess, health and wellness education, and active after-school involvement,” said Stuart Snyder, president and COO of Cartoon Network.
The tour has made stops this summer in New York; Salt Lake City; San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; Atlanta; Tampa; Denver; Sacramento; Orlando; Pittsburgh; and Indianapolis.
Among the featured activities are basketball shooting games; a PGA driving range; football running and passing events; a soccer challenge; skateboard demonstrations; and a station with nutrition tips and information promoting participation with “Let’s Move!” and the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award.

“Move It Movement is a great opportunity for young people to cap off their summers and engage in fitness activities before heading back to school this fall,” said Janet Mullings, executive director for The Woodlands Center. “Sam Houston State University is pleased to welcome those with children and young teens to come out and enjoy the activities at our campus in The Woodlands.”
SHSU’s The Woodlands Center is located at 3380 College Park Dr. in The Woodlands.
The Woodlands Center event is also sponsored by Xfinity and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
