SHSU, Huaiyin Normal University Sign Education Agreement

Sam Houston State University has established a “2 + 1 + 1 agreement” that will allow elementary education majors at Huaiyin Normal University to study for a year at SHSU’s College of Education.
Under the agreement, students will spend their freshman and sophomore years at Huaiyin Normal University, in Huaianhsien, Jiangsu, China, and then come to Sam Houston State University for their junior year. They will return to Huaiyin Normal University to complete their senior year.
“After spending their junior year at Sam Houston State University, we are encouraged that these students will want to return to SHSU to pursue their master’s degree,” said Barbara Eckenfels, executive director for the Office of International Programs. “Plans are also being made with the Office of International Programs to create short programs for cultural and language immersion.”
The delegates from Huaiyin Normal University were on campus July 7 to finalize the agreement.
SHSU President Dana Gibson and Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Jaimie Hebert signed the agreement with HNU Vice President Yajun Yang, HNU School of Education Vice Dean Rujun Cao, HNU Office of Academic Affairs Vice Director Min Chen, HNU School of Further Education General Secretary of Party Committee Zhiguo Wang, and Huizhao Li, from the HNU Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges.
Other delegates from Sam Houston State University involved in the finalization of the agreement included Richard Eglsaer, vice provost for Academic Affairs; Jerry Bruce, interim dean of the SHSU College of Education; Stacey Edmonson, dean of the College of Education, beginning July 15; Daphne Johnson, chair of the College of Education’s curriculum and instruction department; Eckenfels; James Hynes, director for the Center for International Education; Chi Sin Li, professor of educational leadership and counseling; and Amber Li, recruiter and special programs coordinator for the Office of International Programs.
