Ernest Cline will visit campus next week for the Bearkats Read to Succeed Author's Forum. Check out 10 reasons why you should read his debut novel, "Ready Player One," before he gets here.
10: The winners of the "Ready Player One"-themed contests—sponsored by various departments across campus, which are offering more than $2,000 in scholarship prizes—will be announced. |
9: The book is totally applicable to your life. “Continue your quest by taking the test”—We’ll always be faced challenges in life, both inside and outside of the classroom, but we have to remember that to finish the quest of life, we have to go through every obstacle that comes our way. |
8: And "Ready Player One" is filled with video game references! |

7: But it's also a love story... |
6: ...And it's filled with '80s references! Who doesn't love the '80?!? |
5: Even cooler, the book is being made into a movie, with Zak Penn, a writer for "The Avengers," adapting the novel! |
4: So don't be deceived by the 372 pages; it's a quick read. Just find a comfortable spot, and spend the weekend in the Oasis. (You can pick up a FREE copy in the First-Year Experience Office). |
3: And if you don't have time to read it, Wil Wheaton will read it to you! Listen while you work out, or as you walk to class, by snagging the audio version for your iPod, iPad or phone (by clicking here). |

2: Because once you finish, you can slide on over to the Author's Forum (Nov. 11-13) and learn how to create video games and about the consequences of online activity, language barriers and "good, old-fashioned human interaction." |
1: And, most importantly, meet Ernie on "Ernest Cline Day!" and take a #selfie with his Delorean in the Mall. He will even sign your copy of the novel! |
