Greg Hinze named head coach for
SHSU track and field/cross country
Greg Hinze, who has served the past six seasons as men's and women's head cross country and assistant track coach at Texas A&M University, has been named as Track and Field/Cross Country Head Coach at Sam Houston State University.
Director of Athletics Bobby Williams made the announcement Monday. Hinze replaces John Lumley who became Sam Houston State's Assistant Director of Athletics in June.
During his six seasons at Texas A&M, Hinze produced the Aggies' first men's individual conference cross country champion since 1966. He was named as 1995 Southwest Conference Coach of the Year in cross country. He was the first Aggie coach ever to have a male and a female qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships in the same season. He also served as meet coordinator for all Texas A&M home meets and was meet director for the 1995 Games of Texas and the 1990 Southwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Hinze served as men's and women's assistant track and field coach at Louisiana Tech in 1992-93 and at Stephen F. Austin State in 1990-92. He was a four-sport letterman in high school at Sealy, TX, and a track and field letter winner at Wharton County Junior College and Texas A&M University. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology from Texas A&M in 1990 and his Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State in 1992.
