Assistants

Darby Rich, Neil Hardin and Abar Rouse have been named to the Bearkat men's basketball coaching staff of new Sam Houston State Head Coach Bob Marlin.

Rich, a 1992 graduate of the University of Alabama, has served the past four seasons as an assistant coach at Hutchinson Community Colege in Hutchinson, KS. The Blue Dragons compiled a record of 117-24 and won the 1994 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national championship during his four years there. Rich captained the 1992 Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team and played on Southeastern Conference championship teams at Alabama in 1989, 1990 and 1991.

Hardin, who received his bachelor's degree from the University of West Florida in 1996 and his master's degree from the University of Alabama in 1998, has worked the past two seasons as the Athletic Academic Graduate Assistant at the University of Alabama. He served as a student and volunteer coach at Pensacola Junior College from 1992 to 1996. Pensacola won the NJCAA national championship in 1993.

Rouse, a 1997 graduate of Baylor University, served last season as an assistant coach at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. He also served as a student assistant at Baylor. A native of New York, Rouse is a 1993 graduate of Copperas Cove High School.

"I'm extremely pleased to announce our new Sam Houston State men's basketball coaching staff," said Marlin, who was named head coach at SHSU in August after serving three seasons as an assistant at Alabama and five years as head coach at Pensacola Junior College. "These young men have demonstrated they have the ability to coach and recruit on a national level. They are going to be assets for our University as we work to build the Bearkat basketball program."
