Athletes Post Record Grades

The 246 eligible student athletes on Sam Houston State University's 15 varsity sports teams combined to post an overall grade point average of 2.665 during the 1998 spring semester.

That average marks the eighth consecutive semester for SHSU's student-athletes to post an overall grade point average of 2.00 or higher and is the highest overall grade point average ever for intercollegiate athletics at Sam Houston State University.

A total of 84 Bearkat student athletes compiled spring semester grade point averages of 3.0 or higher. Six student athletes posted perfect 4.0 spring semester grade point averages. The six were Magda Solcova and Lucie Marikova (women's tennis), Shari Buchanan and Aaron Frick (track and field), Jonathan Harraid (baseball) and Jed Henke (football).

The women's golf team posted the highest grade point average of any of the Bearkats' 15 sports. The Bearkat women compiled a 3.31 grade point average for the spring semester.
