Football Signings Announced

Thirty-one student-athletes, 14 from junior colleges and 17 from Texas high schools, have signed letters-of-intent to attend Sam Houston State University and play football for Bearkat head coach Ron Randleman.

Of the 14 junior college players, six are already enrolled at Sam Houston State and will participate in football spring practice this semester.

"The two things that jump out at me when I look at our 1999 football recruiting class are speed and experience," said Randleman. "We have upgraded our squad speed considerably. And the experience comes from the 14 junior college players, by far the largest amount of junior college talent we have signed. Last year, for example, we signed only one junior college athlete.

"This year we felt like we need immediate help, especially in the secondary, on special teams, and in the defensive line. We targeted our needs early and stayed on target. The high school players who signed with us all come from successful Texas programs.

"We are extremely pleased with our recruiting effort this year at Sam Houston State and I have to compliment our staff for their hard work."
