Star 100.5 to Broadcast Bearkat Football
Sam Houston State University will have a new radio home for live
play-by-play broadcasts of Bearkat football in 1999 -- Star 100.5 FM KMVL.
Bearkat Director of Athletics Bobby Williams and KMVL Owner-General Manager
Leon Hunt announced that Star 100.5 FM, a powerful 25,000-watt station
located in Madisonville with a signal that covers all of Walker and Madison
Counties and eight other surrounding counties, will be the official football
voice of Sam Houston State.
"This is a marvelous opportunity for Sam Houston State to reach a larger
number of listeners and help create more Bearkat fans," said Williams. "We're
proud to welcome Star 100.5 FM KMVL into the Bearkat program. Leon Hunt,
a Sam Houston State alumnus, and his staff will provide Bearkat fans a
quality broadcast that will allow our fans to be part of the fun and
excitement of Bearkat football both at Bowers Stadium in Huntsville and on
the road in the Southland Football League."
Hunt, who will be the play-by-play voice of the Bearkats this fall, is
equally delighted with the agreement.
"This is a lifetime dream come true for me personally and an outstanding
opportunity for Star 100.5 FM KMVL," said Hunt. "We're excited to become the
play-by-play voice of the Bearkats and hope that fans will tune in every
week, whether they're in the stadium or at home. Its going to be an exciting
season in 1999 for Head Coach Ron Randleman and the Bearkats and we're proud
to be part of it."
Star 100.5 FM KMVL's broadcasts of Bearkat football will begin with the Sam
Houston State - Delta State season opener on Thursday, September 2, at
Bowers Stadium and include all 11 games both at home and on the road. KMVL
also plans to air pre-game and post-game shows before and after each
contest. Complete schedule details will be released as Sam Houston State and
KMVL confirm game kickoff times.
