Four Named
To Hall of Honor

Scheduled to be inducted at an 11:30 a.m. luncheon that day are Bruce "Lefty" Faulk, four-year baseball letterman; Herbert C. Muckleroy, three-year football letterman; Larry (9.5) Lewis, who earned five letters in track and football; and Gary Moss, four year letterman in basketball.

Faulk (left) compiled a 17-10 record as a pitcher, including a no-hitter and one-hitter against the University of Houston and shutouts over such Southwest Conference teams as Baylor, TCU and SMU. His no-hitter was in the next to last game he played as a Bearkat, in 1952, and was broadcast on Huntsville radio with Dan Rather doing play-by-play.

Faulk served in the U. S. Navy and played on teams that won two all-service championships. He also played briefly with the Shreveport team in the Texas League before an arm injury ended his career. He worked as an asbestos insulator in Houston until 1977, when he retired and returned to Center.

Muckleroy (right) was an all-conference lineman in 1949 and 1951. He played football in the military and then went into public schools as a teacher, coach, principal and superintendent in Houston, Kountze, Nederland and Silsbee.

He served six years on the Silsbee City Council as mayor pro-tem, and also served as mayor of Silsbee in 1982. In 1998 he was named Citizen of the Year by the Silsbee Chamber of Commerce.

Lewis (left) earned his nickname (9.5) by running the 100-yard dash in that time to set a Lone Star Conference Record. He was also a running back on the undefeated 1956 football team that won the Refrigerator Bowl in Evansville, Indiana and the NAIA championship.

After competing in football, track and baseball on military teams, he signed a one-year contract with the Houston Oilers, then went into teaching, coaching and administration. He now lives in Mineola where he is a member of the city council.

Moss (right) played on the 1971 Sam Houston State basketball team that won a Lone Star Conference championship and the 1973 team that won national Associated Press and United Press International college division championships. He was team captain his senior year (1973-74) and on the Lone Star Conference all-academic team his junior and senior years.

Now head basketball coach at Gregory-Portland High School, he has coached at the junior high, high school, community college, university, and professional levels, with a career record of 823 wins and 227 losses. His last team at Gregory-Portland was 20-11 and he was named South Texas Boys Basketball Coach of the Year.
