Moonlight Jobs Listed
By Texas Teachers

According to the survey "Texas Teachers, Moonlighting, and Morale: 1980-2000," more teachers have extra jobs than 20 years ago but the number of hours worked is down.

The survey by Professor David Henderson of Sam Houston State University and Travis Henderson of the Windham School District, indicated that 28 percent of the 291 teachers who responded had extra jobs, compared to 22 percent 20 years ago. The number of hours worked per week, however, went down from 13.6 in 1980 to 11.6 in the most recent survey.

Seventy-eight percent of those who hold extra jobs felt it was detrimental to their performance in the classroom, compared to 64 percent 20 years ago.
