Committee Appointed
For Presidential Search
Nancy Neal, chair of the Board of Regents of The Texas State University System, has announced the individuals who have agreed to serve on the Presidential Search Committee for Sam Houston State University.
Earlier this year, Bobby K. Marks announced his retirement as president of Sam Houston State University effective Aug. 31, 2001, thus precipitating the search.
The Presidential Search Committee is composed of representatives from the Board of Regents, the university faculty, staff and student body, the alumni and the community.
Representing the Board of Regents are committee chair Neal, currently the chair of the Board of Regents; Don Flores, executive vice president and editor of The El Paso Times; Jimmy Hayley, president of the Texas City-LaMarque Chamber of Commerce; and Pollyanna Stephens of San Angelo, who previously served as chair of the Board of Regents.
Representing the SHSU faculty, staff and deans are Dean Lewis, dean of the College of Business Administration, who was nominated by the Academic Policy Council; Charles Friel, professor in the College of Criminal Justice, who was nominated by the Faculty Senate; and Frank Parker, assistant dean of Student Life, who was selected to represent the university staff.
Representing the student body and alumni are Amanda Kimbrell, a junior agriculture major at SHSU, who was nominated by the Student Government Association and Ron Mafrige, owner of Mafrige Enterprises Inc. of Houston, who was nominated by the Sam Houston State Alumni Association. Jane Monday, former mayor of Huntsville, will serve as the community representative.
A nationwide search will be conducted with nominations and applications being solicited from numerous sources. The committee's charge is to recommend four to six individuals from which the Board of Regents will select the new SHSU president. The committee anticipates its first meeting within the next month.
