Joe Rauls rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns, Josh McCown passed for 167 yards including a TD strike to Jonathon Cooper, and Keith Davis made 10 tackles including two big defensive plays as 25th ranked Sam Houston State defeated 15th ranked Northwestern State 30-14 in the Southland Football League opener for both teams Saturday at Bowers Stadium. An excellent Parents' Weekend crowd of 12,230 saw the hard-hitting Bearkat defense limit the Demons to just 57 yards rushing and create two big fumbles. In the fourth quarter, Davis picked up another Demon fumble and returned it 31 yards for the game clinching touchdown. Sam Houston State travels to Nicholls State this Saturday before hosting Stephen F. Austin State on Thursday, Oct. 18, in a Fox Sports Cable TV game at Bowers Stadium.
