SHSU Update for Week of Nov. 25

Tree of Light is Thursday

Those who plan to attend are encouraged to bring nonperishable canned food items to benefit the SAAFE House, as well as wrapped toys for the "Toys For Tots" program.

The SHSU Program Council requests that the wrapped toys be marked by gender and age group. Organizations will receive points for food and toy contributions, with the winning organization receiving a pizza party.

Hot chocolate, cookies and wassail will be served at the ceremony.

Attention Music Lovers

The voice students of Dorothy Maddison will present a concert of songs and arias from Spanish Musical Theater entitled "Zarzuela!" at 4 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 29) in the Recital Hall on campus. Admission is free.

Also on Thursday, a Jazz Ensemble concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Killinger Auditorium of the Criminal Justice Center. The ensemble is directed by Rodney Cannon. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students. University faculty, staff and students are admitted free with an SHSU ID.

Opera workshop scenes from "The Magic Flute" will be presented on Saturday (Dec. 1) in the Recital Hall at 5 and 7:30 p.m. The production is directed by Dorothy Maddison and Christopher Michel. The accompanist is Randy Partain, piano. University faculty, staff and students are admitted free. General admission charges are $8 and $5.

Breakfast Co-Sponsors Seeking Volunteers

The event is co-sponsored by ARAMARK Food Service and the SHSU Department of Residence Life. Faculty and staff volunteers will greet students as they arrive, serve food, or bus tables.

The Twilight Breakfast is designed to provide encouragement to students as they prepare for final exams.

"In past semesters, students have enjoyed interaction with professors, coaches, administrators and support staff," said Dana Grant, assistant director of Residence Life.

"It is a fun way to pass along the idea that Sam Houston State University's faculty and staff care about our students," she said.

Volunteers wishing to help with the breakfast are requested to contact Grant at 294-1816 by 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 3.

'Las Cuatro Cerditas'

"Las Cuatro Cerditas" (The Four Little Pigs) will be presented at noon on Wednesday and 12:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Evans Building Auditorium, Room 105.
