James F. Gaertner | |||
The committee has recommended that James F. Gaertner of San Antonio be considered by the Board of Regents. The Presidential Selection Advisory Committee was appointed in October, 2000, after Bobby K. Marks announced his retirement as president of Sam Houston State University effective August 31, 2001. The committee included representatives of the SHSU faculty, academic council, student body, staff, alumni and the Huntsville community as well as board members. Mrs. Nancy Neal of Lubbock, chair of the committee, stated that "after conducting interviews with several candidates, Dr. Gaertner was selected from a field of over 80 highly qualified applicants and nominees from across the country." The Board of Regents will consider the committee's recommendation of Gaertner at its quarterly board meeting on June 7-8, 2001. Gaertner will meet with the university community on June 6, 2001 prior to his interview with the board of regents. Gaertner is currently on sabbatical from his position as a professor in the College of Business at The University of Texas at San Antonio where he previously served in various capacities including dean of the College of Business and interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. His career includes seven years at the University of Notre Dame where, among other positions, he served as director of their London master of business administration program. Gaertner received his bachelor of business administration and master of business administration degrees from Sam Houston State University and his Ph. D. from Texas A&M University.
