Nine students who will graduate this year were selected to receive Sammy Awards in recognition of their contributions "above and beyond the call of duty" to the quality of university life. They are: Jarrien Garner, Ashley Miller, Jason Bible, Tiffany Achane, Vaughan Samples, Edna Obi, Kelly Graham, Cassandra Joseph and Chris Reyes.

Five members of the SHSU faculty and staff were recognized for their service to students beyond their job descriptions. They are: Dr. Robert Williams, Dr. Glenn Sanford, Scoobie Woods, Keith Jenkins and Gayle Bullard.
