Swansbourne, Whatley to Perform
Concert for International Conference

Swansbourne, coordinator of piano studies in Sam Houston State University's School of Music, and Jay Whatley, assistant professor of keyboard studies, will perform for participants in the 23rd International Course of Higher Specialization for Police Services under way through through Oct. 27.
Sam Houston State University students and employees as well as community members are also invited to attend the concert. Admission is free.
Swansbourne and Whatley will present a program of music for piano duet, featuring music by Mozart, Bizet, Faure, Dvorak and Schubert, as well as piano solos by Chopin.
Swansbourne studied at the Royal College of Music in London and later received his doctorate from the Yale School of Music, where he studied with Ward Davenny and Claude Frank.

One of the few pianists in the world who plays all four of Michael Tippett's monumental sonatas, he was invited by the composer to perform them at the Cheltenham International Festival in England. He performed the complete cycle (in eight recitals) of the 32 Beethoven sonatas twice at Idaho State University while on that faculty.
A popular and inspiring teacher, he has been invited to give masterclasses and clinics at dozens of colleges and universities from coast to coast.
Whatley received bachelor's and master's degrees at Sam Houston State in piano performance, as a student of John Paul and Charlotte Tull, and is working toward his doctorate in organ performance at the University of Texas in Austin.
