Tackett Honored for 51 Years
In Law Enforcement Service

Charles Tackett was honored Friday (Dec. 7) for 51 years of service as a commissioned law enforcement officer, the most of any law enforcement officer in Texas. "The Chief," as he is known on the Sam Houston State University campus, where he has worked as director of public safety services since 1973, began his law enforcement service with the Corpus Christi Police Department in November, 1950 and earned his bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State in 1972. He has also been honored for his remarkable career by the Texas Legislature, the SHSU board of regents, and among the many congratulatory messages read at the ceremony Friday was one from former president George Bush. A bust of Tackett, done by Huntsville artist Donnie Wyatt, was presented to the College of Criminal Justice.
