Looking For An Opportunity in the Far East?

"Ten American males and ten females are being sought to teach English to Korean elementary students," said Gerber.

Each American would spend time with about 25 Korean students in a camp setting. They would be camping, playing games and engage in various activities. "The idea is that they would teach English in everyday interactions, not in the classroom," Gerber said.

The first opportunity is coming up quickly. Winter break in Korea is from December 22, 2001 to March 1, 2002. Summer break 2002 is from late July to September 1, 2002. Students could stay for about 2 months in winter and about 40 days in the summer.

The program is primarily looking for students who have a BA or BS in hand. However, they will consider current undergraduate students.

The host will pay airfare, room and board, plus $2,000 per month for people with a BA or BS (regardless of whether or not they are currently enrolled in a graduate program). Payment for current undergraduate students has not yet been determined but would likely be around $1,500, if chosen.

Any majors are eligible. The only requirement is that students are native speakers of English.
