Hinojosa-Smith To Speak


Award-winning Latino author Rolando Hinojosa-Smith will be the guest speaker Friday, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m. in the Evans Building, Room 105.

Hinojosa-Smith is the author of Ask a Policeman, Los Amigos de Becky, Becky and Her Friends, Partners in Crime, Sketches of the Valley, and other works.

His literary awards include Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Institute of Letters, the University of Illinois Distinguished Alumnus Award, Best Writing in the Southwest, Casa de las Americas Novela, and Premio Quinto Sol Best Novel.

Born in the Rio Grande Valley, Hinojosa-Smith received a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Illinois and currently teaches creative writing and English at the University of Texas. He has held the positions of Chair of the Department of Foreign Languges, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Texas A&I-Kingsville.

In 1995 he was honored as Outstanding Latino Faculty in Higher Education by the Hispanic caucus of the American Association for Higher Education.
