Rogers is New LSC Director

Keri Rogers has been named the new director of the Lowman Student Center at Sam Houston State University, effective this fall semester.

Since 1995, Rogers has been the director of the Jack B. Kelley Student Center at West Texas A&M University in Canyon. She takes over the LSC after its recent $12 million renovation.

"I am thrilled to be at SHSU," said Rogers. "The newly renovated student center is gorgeous, and I am looking forward to completing some of the finishing touches to the student center and experiencing all of the exciting student activities."

Frank Parker, associate vice president for student services and dean of students, said the university is fortunate to have Rogers because of her "wealth, experience and expertise she brings to this position."

"Keri Rogers will play an integral role in continuing the legacy of excellence and leadership established by Thomas Childers, who was the LSC director for more than 37 years," said Parker. "She brings to our campus a high level of enthusiasm and experience and we believe that she will be a great mentor and leader to the staff and students whom she will interact with on a daily basis."

Before taking over as director of the student center at West Texas A&M, Rogers was the university's director of student activities for two years. Upon receiving her undergraduate degree from the school in 1988, she was the coordinator of student organizations as a graduate assistant.

During her stay at West Texas A&M, she was also in charge of student programs and activities as well as the instructor of elementary group dynamics.

"Dr. Rogers has a wealth of knowledge in the area of student services," said Thelma Douglass, vice president for student services. "She has been in the field since 1988. She has held previous positions that incorporate the the student centered philosophy, while at the same time, she has held positions that champion the student center and activities model.

"Coupled with her student involvement is her involvement in developing student programs in the academic area," said Douglass. "We are extremely pleased to have Keri Rogers join the Sam Houston State University Bearkat family."

In 1990, Rogers received her master's in interdisciplinary studies. Seven years later, she received a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of North Texas.

Rogers is an active member of many professional organizations such as the Association for the Advancement in Computing Education, National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators.

The LSC was closed during the 2001-2002 school year for renovations but has now opened with the start of fall classes.
