SHSU Update for Week of Oct. 27

Advance Registration Begins

The new schedule replaces the one currently published online and in the Schedule of Classes.

Registration dates for Honor Students are Oct. 25-28; for doctoral, graduate, post baccalaureate, and senior students, Oct. 29; for juniors, Oct. 30; for sophomores, Oct. 31; and for freshmen, Nov. 1. Open registration will be held Nov. 2-8.

The website http://www.shsu.edu/~sam_www/locations.html provides the location of advising for particular majors. Students can also call the SAM Center at 936.294.4444 for information. The center is located in room 115 of the Newton Gresham Library.

Students who are to be advised in the SAM Center can make appointments with advisers between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each school day. The SAM Center will also make appointments for times between 5 and 9 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but students with appointments will be seen first.

Students subject to mandatory advisement must be advised before they can pre-register.

Raven Run Rescheduled

Entries will be taken until Thursday, Nov. 7 for the rescheduled date. If you have already registered and cannot participate on the new date, please contact Recreational Sports at 936.294.1985.

'Great Expectations'

Performances will begin at 8 o'clock each evening, with an additional 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 2.

Ticket prices are $10 per person, $8 for senior citizens and SHSU students with I.D., and may be purchased at the University Theatre Center box office, or by calling 936.294.1339.

Charity Campaign Wraps Up

The campaign ends Oct. 31 and all Higher-Education Authorization Forms should be turned in to campaign co-chair Karon Murff by then. The forms can be returned to Murff through campus mail at SHSU Box 2084.

Employees needing a form should contact Murff at 936.294.1075 or Emmette Jackson at 936.294.1194.

The SHSU charitable campaign is a non-pressure personal choice event to allow the faculty and staff of the university an opportunity to make one-time cash gifts or payroll deduction pledge gifts to non-profit agencies of their own choice. Each faculty or staff member chooses the charity and the amount to be given to that charity.

Ag Representatives to Attend Convention

The faculty members who will be attending with groups of students include Billy Harrell, Joe Muller, Doug Ullrich, David Moorman and Dwayne Pavelock.

SHSU agriculture students will also be working a recruiting booth at the convention for the Agricultural Consortium of Texas, a group of 13 universities and several junior/community colleges which meet twice a year to address common issues among the institutions. SHSU is one of the founding members of the consortium.

Meredith Attends Dedication Ceremony

The dedication of the seven-foot bronze sculpture was the highlight of a celebration honoring the 50th anniversary of the German-American Fulbright Educational Exchange Program. Former President Bill Clinton was the main speaker at the ceremony.

Meredith, who retired from full-time teaching last year, traveled to Germany and participated in the exchange program in 1981, 1986, 1990 and 1995.

"I don't know of anyone who has participated in the program more than four times," said Meredith.

Meredith began teaching German at Sam Houston State University in 1976.

Douglass Meets New German Consul General

Accompanying Douglass were Helena Banks, the SHSU Student Government Association president; Christoph Tennert, a German Fulbright Scholar who is attending SHSU, and Donna Artho, administrative budget manager for student services.
